Discussion of Cold Induced Disorders (Shang Han Lun) C.220
Decoction
Warms the Stomach, Clears Cold, Stops rising Stomach Qi (stops Vomiting)
In the 3 following symptoms-pictures for which this formula can be used, there is coldness, pale tongue with a white shiny tongue coat, and a thin (weak) and slow pulse.
A. Vomiting with epigastric distention and pain, acid reflux, rumbling in the abdomen
B. Vomiting of fluid or bile with Vertex Headache
C. Vomiting and/or Diarrhea with Cold limbs and general Cold symptoms
1. Vomiting
2. Chronic Gastritis
3. Acid Reflux, GERD
4. Irritable Bowel, Ulcerative Colitis
5. Hernia
6. Cholecystitis
7. Migraine, Neurogenic Headache
8. Vertigo with vomiting
9. Meniere’s Disease
10. Trigeminal Neuralgia
11. Hypertension
12. Hypothyroidism
13. Withdrawal from drug addiction
The above decoction is divided into 2 equal doses to be taken morning and night.
It is best taken cool for severe vomiting.
1. Not used in Heat conditions
2. Not used for Vomiting from Heat
3. Not used for Headache or Vertigo from Heat or Liver Yang rising.
1. Severe vomiting, add Pinellia Ban Xia and Amomum Sha Ren
2. More severe cold, add dry Ginger
3. Abdominal pain add White Peony (Bai Shao) and Costus (Mu Xiang)
4. Headache, add Ligusticum Chuan Xiong, Angelica dahurica Bai Zhi, Dang Gui
5. Migraine with severe vomiting, add Pinellia Ban Xia, Citrus Chen Pi
6. Meniere’s Disease, add Cinnamon twig (Gui Zhi)
7. Trigeminal neuralgia, take the decoction with equal parts of powdered Centipede (Wu Gong) and Scorpion (Quan Xie)
8. Hypertension, add Uncaria Gou Teng and Earthworm (Di Long)
9. Severe Yang deficiency (Coldness) with Fluid accumulation, take with Fu Zi Li Zhong Wan.
10. Inguinal Hernia, add Fennel seed (Xiao Hui Xiang)
