The Tibetan Jewel Pills (Rin Chen) are some of the most remarkable compounds in Traditional Medicine. They are large and complex formulas composed of rare herbal, animal and mineral ingredients, and their history, formula, manufacture and use is steeped in history and legend. Today, some are still prepared by Lama monks, some reputably being enhanced by the use of Mantra during the manufacturing process.
They are used for some of the most severe and obstinate diseases, but are regarded as health and longevity tonics if used in Health. They are so potent, that they may be prescribed to be taken once every week, fortnight or even monthly. Lamas often prescribe them to be used with Mantra.
These are still made by a number of factories in Tibet, India and China. However, in recent years with their international popularity increasing, a number of new factories are reportedly making inferior products to capitalize on the expense of the pills and the growing demand..
It should be noted that the indications given for the Pills below is gathered from Traditional sources and Product Information but has largely not been verified by research or trials. In Tibetan culture where faith is strong and the belief in these medicines holds an almost holy place in the minds of the Tibetans, the effects could be expected to be magnified, especially when used with Mantra. Nevertheless, in Sichuan, which borders Tibet, Chinese are known to use these types of Tibetan Medicines when Chinese Medicine has failed. In fact, large Chinese Medicine dispensatories in Chengdu (Sichuan) regularly stock the Tibetan Jewel Pills to cater for the Chinese demand.
The Photos of the Pills wrapped in colored cloth were purchased from the Dr. Dolma memorial clinic in Dharamsala, India. These are better quality than what is typically available.

This is one of the most famous Tibetan Medicine Jewel Pills and contains 86 ingredients. It is based on formula by O rgyan pa Rinchen dpal (1229-1309).
It is neutral in nature, and non-toxic. It is traditionally wrapped in dark blue cloth
It neutralizes the effects of all types of poisons, including food, plant, and chemical poisons as well as insect and animal bites. It calms the Mind, Nerves and Spirit, activates capillary circulation, balances Qi and Blood, and revives the Brain and relieves Pain.
It is used for:
- All types of Poison (acute and chronic)
- Stroke; Cerebral Hemorrhage; Concussion;
- Skewed mouth; Confused speech (such as after stroke)
- Paralysis; Hemiplegia; Tremors; Parkinsonism; Multiple Sclerosis; Numbness of the extremities

Zuozhu Daxi in Chinese
This Pill contains around 50 ingredients and especially contains a lot of Silver. It was created by Surkar Nyam-Nyi Dorjee, a Tibetan Physician of the 15th century It traditionally has a Maroon color. It is slightly Cool in nature.
It is an Antidote, clears Heat and Poison from the Blood, and restores Blood circulation. It promotes growth of the Hair, Skin and Nails; Improves the Senses, enhances the Brain and Memory.
It clears the Liver, strengthens the Stomach, clears Heat, heals Ulcers and Tumors. It is regarded as useful for illness caused by sudden changes in diet and lifestyle.

The Great Multi-Jewel Compound Pill contains 108 ingredients including Gold, Silver, Coral, Turquoise, Musk, Bezoar, Rhino horn etc. It has a balanced nature between hot and cold (some say slightly Cooling). It is based on a formula by O rgyan pa Rinchen dpal (1229-1309). It is traditionally wrapped in Red color.
It is designed to cure 404 major human diseases caused by diseases of the Blood, Phlegm, Bile, Wind and Internal Organs.
Clears Heat and Poison, Benefit Liver and Stomach, clear Eyes, Arouses Spirit, helps heal Trauma, Nourish and Strengthens the Body. It particularly regulates the flow of Qi.

Red Coral 25
Ershi Wuwei Shanhu Wan (In Chinese)
It is based on the formula of Dil Dmar Ba (born 1672) but was first created by the physician Shasandhara Lakhsmi who reportedly used the medicine to save his own life.
It contains 25 ingredients including Red Coral, Lapis Lazuli, Pearl, Magnetite, Chebulic Myrobalan, Aloeswood, Aconite and Calamus, amongst other ingredients. It is traditionally wrapped in Pink cloth.
It opens the Brain, activates the Channels, clears Heat and relieves Pain.
Used for:
- severe and obstinate Headaches and Migraines, Neuralgia, especially of the head
- all Nerve disorders, loss of body movement or function
- obstruction of Senses, loss of Consciousness
- Hypertension, Dizziness, Vertigo, Numbness
- Seizures, Epilepsy
- Sclerosis of the Brain, Multiple Sclerosis, Parkinsonism
- Neurosis, Obsessive thinking about something, effects of chronic Stress
- Arthritic and Rheumatic pains
Taken in health, it regulates the Nerves and Brain, protect from Stress and is said to help promote an optimistic view of life. It is rejuvenative, especially for the Brain and Nervous system. It traditionally contains sacred artifacts which protect from negative influences and Evil Spirits.

Composed by Dpon tshang dzna na, it is composed of 25 ingredients including Turquoise, Pearl, Red Coral, Shilajit, Triphala, Aconite, Nux Vomica, Costus, Aloeswood, Sandalwood, Bezoar and Musk, along with other ingredients.
It is cool in nature, and is traditionally wrapped in Turquoise colored cloth.
Uses:
- A special medicine for all Liver disorders including Pain, Enlargement, Hepatitis, Cirrhosis
- Antidote for Food or Alcohol poisoning
- Hardness and Tumors of the Liver; Liver enlargement with weight loss
- (Latent) Cancers of the Liver, Stomach, Pancreas, Spleen, and abdominal organs in general
- Liver damage from alcohol or toxins.
- Headaches, Hypertension, pressure in the Upper Body from Liver Heat, Red Eyes, Myopia

The Great Precious Cold Compound Black Pills are a special pill for all chronic and severe diseases.
They contain over 100 ingredients including Purified and Detoxified Mercury. It also contains a number of metals and gems, all purified for use, as well as a number of special herbal medicines including Tabasheer

Great Precious Iron Pill
It contains 40 ingredients including purified Iron powder, Triphala, Saffron, Magnetite, Shilajit etc.
Uses:
- Chronic Eye diseases, cataract, tearing, Eye pain, intolerance to light, blood shoot eyes,
- partial or complete blindness due to dilation of the pupil,
- blurred vision, weakening of the vision, blindness due to inner cataract
- burning sensation in eyes, intolerance to wind,
- swelling of an eyelid, dry and watery eyes, growth of wart or pimples on the sclera
- infection of the lacrimal gland, disorder of optic nerve, difficulty in opening and closing of eyes
- exceptionally beneficial against cataract due to chronic compounded poisoning
- anemia, rashes and pimples,
- chronic jaundice.
When taken by a healthy person, it protects the eyes and is an eye tonic.
Mu tig nyer lngaམུ་ཏིག་ཉེར་ལྔ།

Precious Pearl 25 It contains 25 ingredients including Pearl, Tabasheer, Saffron, Sandalwood etc.
Uses:
- Headache from Heat
- Paralysis
- Stiffness and contracture of the limbs
- Memory loss
- Insomnia
- Used after Stroke for Hemiplegia, loss of speech etc.
- Nervous disorders
There is also a Pearl 70 Pill, which is another name for Ratna Samphel (above).
The Pearl formulas are less commonly used than some of the other Jewel Pills. They are used for brain and neurological diseases, but Red Coral 25 and other of the Precious Pills are more commonly used.

Instructions
“A night before taking the precious pill, take light decoction prepared from seven grains of yer-ma (prickly ash) to open up body channels. Soak the pill in a small amount of hot boiled water using an clean unbroken cup covering it with a lid and leave it to stand overnight. The pill should not be expose to bright light. Early the next morning before day breaks, crush and stir the content either with spoon or with the ring finger and drink the whole mixture after adding little amount of hot water. Retire to bed with warm covering and sleep for about one hour in order to induce little perspiration. Following that take little amount of hot water infused with saffron to close body channels. This will help to retain the effect of medicine in the body. If one need to take the medicine urgently, it can also be taken like any other Tibetan pills with boiled hot water. When taken for rejuvenation by a healthy person, it should be taken on an auspicious dates like eight, full moon and new moon days of Tibetan lunar calendar to gain optimum result.“
Cautions
For a period of three to seven days after taking the medicine, avoid fish, pork, egg, sour alcohols, onion, garlic, wild garlic, putrid food, hot spices, strenuous physical activities, accidents, daytime sleep, cold bath and sex.

A Regimen for Cancer
This is typical of a regime used in the treatment of Cancer. In some instances, only 2 of the following pills are used, either Mangjor and Tso Tru, or Mangjor and Ratna Samphel.
- First week: 1 Mangjor
- Second week: 1 Tso Tru (Moon Crystal) pill
- Third week: 1 Ratna Samphel
It should be emphasized that this is just an example, and treatment will of course be individualized. When a Lama monk prescribes these pills in Cancer treatment, invariable Mantras are also prescribed to be repeated daily, sometimes repeating the Mantras a total of 10,’s of times over weeks or months.
