Styptic Decoction

Pharmacopoeia Extemporanea, Thomas Fuller, London, 1710
Boil in 3 pints of Water to 28 ounces; strain and add Syrup of dried Roses 4 ounces, mix.
Astringent, clears Heat, stops Bleeding
1. Heat-type Bleeding of the Lungs, Stomach, Bladder, Kidney or Bowels
2. Excessive Menstruation associated with Heat
1⁄4 pint twice daily

1. To Make stronger, the following was traditionally added: Sugar of Lead 1 scruple; Astringent Crocus of Mars 4 scruples; Mix.
2. This can be simplified to Nettle root, Comfrey root, Yarrow and Plantain
This is another expanded version of the combination of Boyles Syrup (Syrup of Plantain and Comfrey), highly regarded for Spitting of Blood.
