Some Anti-Cancer Formulas

Following are samples of Anti-Cancer formulas derived from Traditional sources.

FUMITORY SYRUP.   Endive, Wormwood, Hops,   Dodder, Hart’s-tongue           1 handful ea.   Dodder of Thyme                   1 ½ oz. Boil in 4 lbs. of water until 2 lbs. remain. Strain, then add:   Fumitory juice, depurated    1 ½ lbs.    White Sugar                            4 lbs.

Boil them gently to a syrup in BM. (Some added 0.5 lb. each of the juices of Borage and Bugloss). Used to clear Melancholy. It cleanses, strengthens and cools the Liver to cause it to make good blood, so the blood can make good flesh and skin; it opens obstructions of the Stomach, Liver and Spleen. Used for a variety of Skin diseases, including ‘Leprosy, Cancers, Warts, Corns, Itch, Tetters, Ringworms, Scabs … and is better to be liked, because of its gentleness’. Dose: 2-3, or 4 oz. every morning. (Salmon, Culpeper)


PILLS of FUMITORY
(Pilulae de Fumaria) (Avicenna)

  Myrobalans, Chebulic
    Yellow, Indian
  Diagridium                            5 drams each
  Aloes                                     7 drams

They are all bruised and moistened 3 times with the juice of Fumitory, drying every time. Lasty they are made into a pills mass with Syrup of Fumitory SA. Dose: 1 scruple–1 dram

‘They open Obstructions of the Liver and Spleen, purge Salt Phlegm and Melancholy, and are good for such diseases as proceed therefrom, as Scabs, Leprosy, Scurf, Morphew, Tettars, Cancers, Itch, &c.’ (Salmon, Wirtzung)


CANCER COMPOUND.

  Fluid Extracts of Agrimony
    Barberry,
    Burdock,
    Yellow Dock                         ½ oz. ea.
  Fluid Extract of Poke root    2 drams
  Tincture of Capsicum           1 dram
  Camphor Water                     8 oz.

This was recommended to ‘improve the general health and purify the blood’.
Dose: 1 teaspoonful 3 times daily after meals. (The Medical Herbalist)

A MILK-WATER for CANCER & SCROFULA.   Roots of Daisy, Burdock,     Guaiacum, Sassfras,     Sarsaparilla, China root,     Tormentil,   Hounds Tongue                    2 oz.   Celandine, Yarrow, Plantain,     Herb Robert, Agrimony,     Speedwell, Ground Ivy,     Cinquefoil                            1 large handful   Archangel flowers                1 pint   Seeds of Sweet Fennel,     Coriander                             1 oz.

Bruise them all, steep in a Gallon of Milk, then draw off [distil] ‘as much as runs good’. Drink one quarter of an ounce every 4 hours. Into each dose squeeze the juice from a small spoonful of Millipedes [or they could be infused with the rest]. (A Collection of Recipts, ‘By Several Hands’, Fifth Edition, 1734)


DECOCTION for CANCER.

  Roots of Figwort, Mullein      2 oz. ea.
  Filipendula, Herb Robert,
    Ceterach, Agrimony,
    Tormentil, Scabious,
    Toad Flax                                1 handful
  Flowers of Elder, Rosemary  1 pugil
  Nettle seed                              2 drams

Make a Decoction in Water 3 quarts to 3 pints and half; to the strained Liquor add Altering Syrup of Apples and Syrup of Citron Juice, of each 4 ounces, mix all.
‘Let a good Draught be taken thrice a Day’. (Pharmacopoeia Extemporanea, Thomas Fuller, London, 1710)


SCROFULA and CANCER.

  Guaiacum                                1 oz.
  Sassafras, Sarsaparilla,
  sharp-pointed Dock,
  Daisy roots                              ½ oz. each
  Archangel flowers,
  Millipedes                               2 handfuls
  Ground Ivy,
  Herb Robert                            1 handful

Bruise them and steep overnight in 3 pints of new ale. Strain it and drink no other drink for 6 weeks during the Spring and Autumn. (A Collection of Recipts, ‘By Several Hands’, Fifth Edition, 1734)


DECOCTION FOR CANCER.
To improve the general health of the sufferer:

  Yellow Dock root
  Quassia chips
  Woody Nightshade
  Cinquefoil
  Agrimony                                1 oz. ea.
    
Add these to 5 pints of water, boil down to three. Add a teaspoonful of Cayenne powder. When cold, add 2 oz. of the decoction of Sarsaparilla. Take a wineglassful 3 times daily. (Model Botanic Guide to Health)


DR. ELISHA SMITH’S ANTI-MERCURIAL SYRUP.

  Sarsaparilla                              2 lbs.
  Guaiacum chips                      1 lb
  Blue Flag                                  6 oz.
  Prickly Ash bark (Zanthoxylum)
    Licorice                                   3 oz. ea.
  *Stramonium seeds (Datura) ½ oz.

* ‘This article we always reject from the compound, for reasons well known to Thomsonians. Boil in two or three waters, until the strength is obtained, forming two gallons of the decoction; to which is to be added, when cold, one and a half gallon of molasses and two ounces of the oil of sassafras; the whole to be well shaken together and bottled for use’.
‘This compound is highly recommended by Dr. Smith of New York, for cancerous, scrofulous, and all other humors and taints, particularly for those forms of disease produced by mercury that everywhere exhibit themselves, and venereal’. (Guide to Health, B. Colby, 1846)

Dose: However it is taken (capsule, powder, decoction), it is often thought best in conditions such as this to start the dose small, and gradually build up to a therapeutic dose or larger. Wherever treatment results begin to plateau, a 2 week break in treatment is often beneficial. A formula like this can be used in conjunction with radio or chemo therapies.

This formula is similar in composition to several formulas currently used to treat Cancer, including those from the famous HOXEY clinic. Most of the herbs in this formula have been used in various Cancer formulas, and many cases have been cured, have gone into remission, or have achieved a superior quality of life with the aid of these herbs. Individual doses should be adjusted to alter the bias of the formula to suit individual needs, and as most of the herbs are cooling, blood cleansing herbs, additions may be necessary.


‘ESSIAC”.

  Sheep’s Sorrel
  Rhubarb
  Slippery Elm
  Burdock

Used in the treatment of Cancer. This is the original formula given by an American Indian healer to a nurse with Breast Cancer who cured herself with this formula. The formula was only given to her when she was moving from the area of the healer. Years later, Rene Caisse learnt of the formula when she noticed the large scar on the breast of this elderly woman. She began to treat patients (for free) and began to have local doctors send their Cancer patients to her. The AMA and other authorities supposedly then began to put pressure on and discourage doctors from using such therapies. ‘The Shepherd’s Purse has been announced as the chief remedy of the seven “Marvellous Medicines” prepared by Count Mattei of Bologna, which are believed by his disciples to be curative of diseases otherwise intractible, such as Cancer, Aneurism and destructive Leprosy’. (The Medical Herbalist)


ALZOON.
Alzoon is an extract consisting of several plants, the principle plant being Petasites (Butterbur). It was first patented by a chemist, M.R. von Niederhausen from Basel in 1943. His company, Alsana Inc., of Switzerland, continues to make and sell the product today. It is a plant extract which is oxygen treated, then treated with UV. The basic formula is: Petasites, Dandelion, Juniper, Fern, Brunellias.
Recommended in long term treatment of Severe pain, Cachexia, Anemia as a result of Malignant tumors, or gastroduodenal ulcers, as well as in the relief of terminal end-stage cancer patients. It is said to relieve pain as well as stimulating appetite, and enhancing general quality of life.

Topical Medicines

SKIN TUMORS.
  Inspissated juice of Sorrel, Burnt Alum, Citric acid, Water
Mix well and paint on cutaneous tumors.

BREAST CANCER.
‘A woman whose breast were quite consumed by a Cancer was restored to health by the Distilled Water of it [Blessed Thistle], and by sprinkling the powder of the leaves on the ulcers’. (Pechy)

‘A POULTICE AGAINST CANCEROUS SORES OF WOMEN’S BREASTS’.
‘Take of the juice of Celandine, and Goose dung, of each a like quantity, mix them together and apply it’. (Pemell, Tractus de Facultatibus simplicium, 1653)

CANCER, GANGRENE, FISTULA.
‘Arnoldus de Villa Nova affirms, that he has often seen Cancers, Gangrenes, and Fistulas dried up and perfectly cured, though they would yield to no other medicines, by frequently washing them with an infusion of Rosemary in Spirit of Wine’. (Pharmacopoeia Universalis, R. James, M.D., London, 1743)

CANCER in the MOUTH, or the BROW, or ANY OTHER PART’.
‘Take eight or nine leaves of Sage, and pound well with some salt and vinegar, apply it as a plaster to the part’. (The Physicians of Myddvai, translated by John Pughe esq., 1861)

CANCER of the MOUTH.
Mix Plantain juice with Vinegar and Rose water and rinse the mouth with it often. (The Physicians of Myddvai, translated by John Pughe esq., 1861)

SKIN CANCERS.
  Vinegar                            ½ pint
  Camphor                         2 Tspn
Mix. Heat to almost boiling. After cooling, apply to cancer. (From ‘The Traditional Healers Handbook’, Chishti)

FISTULAS, SPREADING ULCERS, and CANCERS.
  Ground Ivy Juice
  Honey and Verdigris
Boil together for local application. It is also applied to various itches and scabs, and other eruptions (Culpeper).
