Classification:
Uses:
1. Clears Heat and Damp:
-Edema, Strangury, Ascites
-Jaundice
–cholecystitis, cholelithiasis
-Leukorrhea
2. Clears Wind-Damp:
-Arthritis, Rheumatism (Root is best)
3. Resolves Masses:
-various Tumors
-Cancers, especially Lung, Throat, Liver and Bone
4. Clears Heat, Resists Poison:
-Cold, Fever
-Malaria
-Erysipelas
-Sores, Breast Swellings and Abscess
-topically to toxic sores and carbuncles
5. Kills Worms:
-used for Worms, especially Roundworm
Dose:
The Whole Herb, Fruit or Root can be used in similar doses.
Decoction: 5–15 grams; up to 30 grams is given for tumors, cancers, worms etc.
Substitute:
Similar to Solanum dulcamara and Solanum nigrum

1. Lung Cancer
i. Solanum lyratum, Sedum sarmentosum
ii. Solanum lyratum, Dang Gui, Solanum nigrum Long Kui, Astragalus Huang Qi
iii. Solanum lyratum, Hedyotis Bai Hua She She Cao, Lobelia root Ban Bian Lian, Scutellaria Ban Zhi Lian
2. Vocal Cord Cancer, Solanum lyratum, Solanum nigrum Long Kui, Duchesnea indica, Salvia chinensis, Ophiopogon Mai Men Dong, Pyrrosia
3. Roundworms, fruit or root of Solanum lyratum is decoted and taken half in the morning and the remainder at night. (Barefoot Doctors Manual)
