Culpeper said ‘This powder for many days given is excellent’. It is most certainly not his invention, but his source is uncertain. The claim that its long-term administration is effective is probably taken from the original source.

This is given due to the fact that stones and gems were long regarded as having strong and profound effects. While in India, I met several physicians who worked solely by prescribing specific gemstones to be worn for the cure of various diseases as ascertained by astrological means. Claims of serious, obstinate and life-threatening diseases being cured simply by the wearing of certain stones is commonly claimed. In addition, the use of gemstones internally in Tibetan Medicine is claimed to be most powerful, and a number of the Gem-containing Precious Pills are still used in Cancer treatment. Up into the middle ages, such beliefs and uses for stones was likewise commonplace in Europe.
