1. Benefits the Stomach, Promotes Digestion:
-Food Stagnation, over-eating
-Infantile indigestion with malnutrition
-Abdominal pain from food stagnation
-improves gastric motility
2. Clears Phlegm, Stops Cough:
-Phlegm-heat Cough, Wheezing
-Scrofula
3. Clears Heat, Resists Poison:
-Acute Sore Throat
-Common Cold (Ayurveda)
-Boils, Abscesses, Carbuncles, Toxic Sores
-Diarrhea, Dysentery, Enteritis from Toxic=Heat
-Acute Appendicitis
-Burns, Scalds

-Leukorpenia induced by radiation
-effectual for Organo-phosphate and pesticide poisoning
4. Clears Wind and Damp, Clears the Channels, Eases Pain:
-Arthritis, Gout, Rheumatoid Arthritis, Osteoarthritis (TCM, Ayurveda)

-Liver and Spleen enlargement
-Trauma, Bruising, Postoperative injuries

5. Externally:
-fresh plant beaten and applied to Boils, Carbuncles and Toxic Sores
-strong decoction as a wash for Itchiness, Eczema and Dermatitis
Dose:
Decoction: 10–20 grams (30–60 grams fresh)
Decoction (Ayurveda) 1 in 8: 50–100 mls.
Juice: 10–20 mls.
Suitable amount can be beaten for topical application, or a strong decoction can be used as a wash.
Main Combinations:
1. Food Stagnation with Indigestion:
i. with abdominal pain and distention, Paederia with stir-fried Hawthorn fruit (Shan Zha), Medicated Leaven (Shen Qu)
ii. with Spleen deficiency, Paederia with Atractylodes Bai Zhu, Malted Barley (Mai Ya)
iii. infantile Indigestion with malnutrition, Paederia decocted with Pig’s Stomach
2. Cough and Wheezing:
i. from Phlegm-Heat, Paederia with Trichosanthes semen Gua Lou, Loquat leaf (Pi Pa Ye)
ii. from Phlegm-Heat, Paederia with Scutellaria Huang Qin, Platycodon Jie Geng
iii. from Phlegm-Heat, Paederia with Scutellaria Huang Qin, Mulberry bark (Sang Bai Pi), Almond kernel (Xing Ren)
iv. from Cold Phlegm, Paederia with Pinellia Ban Xia, Citrus Chen Pi, Bitter Almond (Ku Xing Ren)
3. Acute Sore Throat, Paederia with Isatis Ban Lan Gen, Lonicera Jin Yin Hua
4. Common Cold, Paederia with Ginger as a tea. (Ayurveda)
5. Furuncles, Boils, Carbuncles, Paederia with Dandelion (Pu Gong Ying), Rhubarb (Da Huang), and apply a paste of the fresh herb topically.
6. Dysentery from Toxic Heat, Paederia with Coptis Huang Lian, Purslane (Ma Chi Xian), Costus Mu Xiang.
7. Organo-phosphate, decoct with Mung Bean (Lu Dou)
8. Rheumatoid arthritis from Wind-Damp, Paederia with Trachelospermum Luo Shi Teng, Clematis Wei Ling Xian, Cinnamon twig (Gui Zhi)
9. Osteoarthritis, take 10 mls of the juice of Paederia twice daily. (Ayurveda)
