Mistletoe & Peony

Mistletoe nourishes Yin and Blood, benefits the Liver and Kidneys, settles Wind, regulates the Nerves and Tendons and strengthens the Bones and Joints.

Peony nourishes Blood and Yin, calms the Liver to settle Wind, and greatly benefits the Liver. This combination is from the Western Tradition. Paeonia officinalis is different to the Paeonia Bai Shao of TCM. It has Blood and Yin tonic qualities similar to Paeonia Bai Shao, but is superior in settling Internal Wind. It gently but firmly clears Heat and Wind by nourishing the Yin. This creates a strong effect of calming and regulating the CNS. When the Liver is disturbed by Heat, Wind or Deficiency, nervous disorders manifest. Peony corrects all of these irregularities.

The Chinese say when the Liver Yin and Blood are deficient, Wind develops. This causes dryness which causes Wind to be irritated and increased. Therefore, in chronic Wind diseases, especially in the elderly or weak, this combination is invaluable.

This powerful combination of Tonic medicines was often combined for diseases of the Brain and Nervous System, most especially Epilepsy, but also Childhood Convulsions, Migraine, Apoplexy, Paralysis, Hysteria, Vertigo, Dizziness etc.

It is particularly indicated in cases of Hypertension.

When Dang Gui and other herbs are added, it is also a good female tonic, useful to increase strength, improve complexion, and promote a calm disposition.
