Preparation:
Powder and form Honey pills.
It can also be made into decoction with appropriate doses.
Function:
Moistens Intestines, Purges Heat, moves Qi
Use:
1. Constipation with hard and dry stool that’s hard to pass
2. Chronic Constipation in the weak or elderly
3. Postpartum Constipation
4. Post Surgical Constipation
5. Drug induced Constipation (such as Opioids or Antipsychotics)
6. Constipation with Hemorrhoids
Dose:
Take 9 grams once or twice daily with warm water.
Cautions:
1. Not used during pregnancy (or use with extreme caution)
2. Caution using in the very weak (administer tonics such as Bu Zhong Yi Qi Tang concurrently).
Modifications:
1. In severe weakness, substitute a small dose of Senna for the Rhubarb, or reduce the Rhubarb dose
2. Habitual Constipation in the aged, omit or reduce the Rhubarb and add Dang Gui and Cistanches Rou Cong Rong
2. Hemorrhoids:
i. add Peach kernel (Tao Ren) and Dang Gui.
ii. add Peach kernel (Tao Ren), Coptis Huang Lian and Cimicifuga Sheng Ma
3. If used in Pregnancy, omit Rhubarb, or reduce the dosage.
