Preparation:


Prepare a standard decoction.
In modern times, the doses are usually increased.

Function:


Clears Wind and Damp, Opens Obstructions, Eases Pain

Use:


Joint pain aggravated by Cold, with numbness, heaviness, thick white tongue coating and a slow pulse.

2. Chronic Lumbago
3. Arthritis
4. Osteoarthritis
5. Rheumatoid Arthritis
6. Bursitis
7. Frozen Shoulder
8. Fibromyalgia
9. Rheumatic Fever

Dose:


The above decoction is divided into 3 equal doses to be taken over the course of a day.

Cautions:


Not used for Yin Deficiency

Modifications:


1. Cinnamon twig (Gui Zhi) is often substituted for Cinnamon bark (Rou Gui). The former is better for joint pain of the extremities, the latter is better for marked Coldness and Kidney Yang deficiency.
2. Wind (moving) type Arthritis, add Saposhnikovia Fang Feng
3. Damp type Arthritis, add Jobs Tears (Yi Yi Ren) and Dark Atractylodes Cang Zhu
4. Joint Pain with Blood Stasis, add Turmeric Huang Jiang, Frankincense (Ru Xiang), Myrrh (Mo Yao)
5. Chronic Arthritis, add Acanthopanax Wu Jia Pi, Eucommia Du Zhong, Mistletoe (Sang Ji Sheng)
6. Lower Back Pain, add Eucommia Du Zhong and Cibotium Gou Ji
7. Leg Pain, add Achyranthes Niu Xi, Dipsacus Xu Duan
8. Frozen Shoudler, add Costus Mu Xiang, Turmeric Huang Jiang, Paeonia Bai Shao, Astragalus Huang Qi, Trachelospemum Luo Shi Teng
9. Rheumatic Fever, add Frankincense (Ru Xiang), Costus Mu Xiang, Spatholobus Ji Xue Teng
