Preparation:


Decoction
Originally, 9 grams each of Astragalus, Cinnamon twig and Peony were ordered, with 18 grams of Ginger and 12 pieces of Jujube. Today, the dose of Astragalus is considerably increased, and the doses of Cinnamon twig and Peony can be slightly increaed, depending on individual circumstances. The number of Jujubes is reduced to 3–5 pieces.

Use:


Pain due to external Wind obstructing Blood circulation
1. Acute Neck and Shoulder Pain
2. Periarthritis of the Shoulders
3. Facial Paralysis
4. Hemiplegia
5. Arthritis (moving, with numbness)
6. Urticaria
7. Restless Leg Syndrome
8. Neuropathy (incl. Diabetic)
9. Peripheral Neuropathy
10. Raynaud’s disease
11. Thromboangitis Obliterans
12. Thrombocytopenic Purpura
13. Frostbite

The above is taken over the course of the day.

Cautions:


None noted

Modifications:


1. Severe Cold extremities, add Aconitum Fu Zi
2. Severe Qi deficiency, add Ginseng
3. Blood deficiency, add Dang Gui
4. More severe Wind with muscular spasms or moving Arthritis, add Saposhnikovia Fang Feng
5. To more strongly open obstructions in pain, arthritis, spasm or numbness, add Earthworm (Di Long)
6. Weakness of the legs, add Achyranthes Niu Xi
7. Shoulder pain and inflammation, Frozen Shoulder, add Turmeric (Jiang Huang)
8. Raynaud’s disease, add Safflower (Hong Hua), Peach kernel (Tao Ren) and Earthworm (Di Long)
9. Peripheral Neuritis, add Mistletoe (Sang Ji Sheng) and Spatholobus Ji Xue Teng.
10. Frostbite, add Spatholobus Ji Xue Teng, Aconitum Fu Zi.
