Preparation:


Digest for several days, stirring often every day, then filter.

Function:


Opens Obstructions, Moves the Blood, Clears Phlegm and Damp, Benefits Stomach

Use:


1. Stimulates appetite and digestion taken before food
2. Poor appetite, Nausea
3. Indigestion
4. Stomach pain
5. Colic, Bloating, Belching
6. Edema
7. Arthritis, Sciatica, Rheumatism
8. Paralysis
9. Amenorrhea
10. Cachexia
11. Breathlessness from excess Phlegm

Dose:


2–4 oz.

Cautions:


Not used during Pregnancy

Modifications:


The Cochineal can be omitted.

“It opens Opilations [obstructions] of the Liver and Spleen, is good against Hypochondriac Melancholy, Cachexia’s, Rheumatisms, Dropsies, Gouts, Sciatica, Palsies [Paralysis], and Convulsions, and indeed most distempers of the Nerves, Womb and Joints”.

“It provokes the Terms [Amenorrhea] in Women, strengthens the Stomach, causes a good Appetite and Digestion, and makes a good colour and complexion in the face. Given to children with the Rickets it cures them, taking away obstructions of the Lungs, and superfluous Phlegm, and causes a free breathing”. (Salmon)
