There are several types of Mdung rtse in Tibetan Medicine:
  1. Mdung rtse dkar po (Goethite)
  2. Mdung rtse smug po (Brown Hematite)
  3. Mdung rtse dmar po (Red Hematite)

Uses:


1. Clears Heat, Benefits the Eyes:
–used for Eye diseases
–Cataracts

2. Benefits the Bones:
–used for Fractures

3. Settles Wind, Benefits the Brain:
–diseases of the “White Channels” (Nerves)
–Brain damage (Drungtso)

4. Externally:
–in formulas for skin dieseases with swelling and itching


Dose:


Prepared Powder: 500mg–2 grams

Substitute:


Goethite is generally used similarly to Hematite.

Preparation:


Can be prepared as for Hematite.

1. For Eye diseases, Goethite, Calcite, Safflower, Triphala, Shilajit, Clove, Nutmeg
2. Loss of Sight, Goethite, Six Excellent Medicines, Triphala, Swertia, Calamine, Antelope horn, Rhinoceros horn, Sandalwood, Bezoar, Musk, Bear Bile (as in Mdung rtse nyer lnga)
3. Fractures, Goethite, Magnetite, Pearl, Cinnabar, Musk, Saffron
