Prepared Aconite Decoction
TCM
Discussion of Cold Induced Disorders (Shang Han Lun) C.220
Prepare as a decoction; the Aconite is soaked, washed, then decocted for 45–60 minutes before adding the other ingredients.
Warms the Yang, clears Cold and Damp
Coldness, cold extremities, damp-cold pain in the bones and joints, pale tongue with a white smooth tongue coat, faint and weak, slow pulse.
1. Arthritis
2. Rheumatoid Arthritis
3. Lumbar disc disease
4. Ankylosing Spondylitis
5. Chronic Nephritis
6. Migraine
7. Trigeminal Neuralgia
8. Cardiac disease
9. Chronic Bronchitis
The above can be taken in 2–3 equal doses over the course of the day.
1. Not used in Yin deficiency.
2. Avoid overdose
3. Avoid use in those taking Heart medication
1. Adding fresh Ginger and Licorice both enhances the effect of the formula, and helps negate the toxicity of Aconite.
2. More severe Cold-Damp joint pain, add Cinnamon twig Gui Zhi.
3. Pain with blood stasis, add Myrrh and Frankincense.
This is closely related to True Warrior Decoction Zhen Wu Tang. However, that focuses on treating Damp and Water, this focuses on Cold-Damp body pain.
