Dose
Decoction: 6–15 grams
Comment:
The hairs on the leaf must be removed as the can irritate the airways.
Main Combinations:
1. Cough:
i. Lung heat Cough, or Cough with hard-to-clear Sputum, Eriobotrya Pi Pa Ye with Almond (Xing Ren)
ii. Lung-heat Cough and shortness of Breath, Eriobotrya Pi Pa Ye, Scutellaria Huang Qin, Mulberry Root Bark (Sang Bai Pi), Gardenia Zhi Zi (as in Pi Pa Qing Fei Yin from Yi Zong Jin Jian [Golden Mirror of Orthodox Medicine]).
iii. Cough from heat and dryness with hard-to-clear phlegm, Eriobotrya Pi Pa Ye, Mulberry leaf (Sang Ye), Ophiopogon Mai Men Dong, Donkey-hide Gelatin (E Jiao) (as in Qing Zao Jiu Fei Tang from Yi Men Fa Lu [Precepts for Physicians]).
iv. Bronchitis, Eriobotrya Pi Pa Ye with Stemona Bai Bu, Poppy capsules (Ying Su Ke), Cynanchum Bai Qian, Mulberry Root Bark (Sang Bai Pi), Pltaycodon Jie Geng (as in Pi Pa Zhi Ke Tang Jiang (Loquat leaf Cough Syrup)
2. Vomiting from Stomach Heat, Eriobotrya Pi Pa Ye with Scutellaria Huang Qin and Cyperus rotundus (Xiang Fu)
3. Hiccup and Vomiting from rising Stomach Qi, Eriobotrya Pi Pa Ye with Citrus Chen Pi, Licorice, fresh Ginger
