This is a highly regarded formula for Menopausal Syndrome in TCM. Interestingly, it is a comparatively new formula, being introduced within the last century. This suggests the Menopausal syndrome as we know it today was less common in the past.

The dosage range given for each herb means that it can be tailored to suit the individual. If there is more Kidney deficiency, Curculigo Xian Mao and Epimedium Yin Yang Huo can be increased; if there is greater Blood deficiency, Dang Gui can be given in fuller doses; if there is less Heat symoptoms, Phellodendron Huang Bai and Anemarrhena Zhi Mu can be used in lower doses. If there is strong Heat symptoms, the latter 2 medicines can be given in larger doses.
