Ayurvedic texts divide Diamonds into three types:
  1. Masculine: has 6 or 8 angles, very bright with a lustre like a rainbow
  2. Feminie: 6 angles, full of spots and lines; parabolic and rounded on the edges
  3. Neuter: 3 angles, thin, rounded, elongated
The first type “Masculine” is regarded as best for medicine.
Diamond fragments are obtained from the remnants of cut diamonds.

Dose:


1–3mg (up to 10mg) with Honey or Milk.
Some sources recommend a dose of up to 1 grain.
One common method used in Cancer therapy it to add 1% Diamond Bhasma to Rasasindura (Vermillion–man made red Mercury sulphide). This can be given in doses of 125–250mg.

Substitute:


Tourmaline Bhasma

Purification:
Diamond is extremely hard so needs special preparation.
1. Diamonds are purified if they are boiled in Dola Yantra with decoction of Dolichos biflorus.
2. Diamond is purified when put inside a lemon and boiled in the leaf juice of Agati grahdiflora
3. Purified after being beaten in horse urine, then firing in Putapaka process.

4. Quenching:
  Diamond pieces are heated until very hot then quenched into a suitable juice for 100 times. Juices used may include Emblic Myrobalan juice, Snuhi (Euphorbia neriifolia) or Dolichos biflorus.
5. Using Mercury:
  Some use another treatment after quenching, putting the Diamond in Mercury which makes it brittle. Then it can be powdered to form Bhasma.


To Powder Diamond:
1. “A paste is made of the root of a cotton plant with the juice of some betel leaves, both the vegetables being not less than three years old. The diamond is then enclosed within this paste and roasted in a pit of fire. This process is repeated seven times, when the stone is easily reduced to a fine powder.” (Nadkarni)
2. “Another process consists in roasting the diamond enclosed in a paste made of horn-shavings for three times in succession” (Nadkarni)

Preparation:


1. Purified Diamond is mixed with Cinnabar and purified Sulphur. and mixed with Dolichos biflorus juice to form Small discs or pills. These are heated inside sealed clay pans in Gajaputa. This is repeated 14 times.
2. Purified Diamond is mixed with Orpiment and Realgar (equal quantity) and ground finely. Prepare discs and dry. Burn in Mahaputa 14 times. (Rasatarangini)

Main Combinations:


1. Cancer:
i. Diamond Bhasma (1%) is added to Vermillion (Red Sulphide of Mercury). Take in 125–250mg doses.
ii. Diamond Bhasma is taken with Kanchanara Guggulu.
2. Severe deficiency:
i. Diamond Bhasma, Gold Bhasma, Pearl powder, Triphala
ii. Diamond Bhasma, Shilajit, Withania, Chebulic Myrobalan, Long Pepper
3. Tonic for the Elderly: Diamond Bhasma, Triphala, Withania, Asparagus, Shilajit
4. Strengthen the Heart: Diamond Bhasma, Saffron, Cinnamon
