Warm, dry. Pungent, Bitter and Salty

Constituents:


Water (95%), Urea (2.5%)
Minerals: iron, calcium, phosphorus, nitrogen, ammonia, manganese, iron, sulfur, phosphates, potassium salts; Gold has been found in the amount of 3–10mg per liter in the Gir breed of Cow in India.
Enzymes (inc. urokinase)
Phenols (gallic, caffeic, ferulic, o-coumaric, cinnamic, salicylic acids)
Lactose, allantoin, Peptides, Hormones

Uses:


1. Clears Heat, Resists Poison:
-classically listed against Poison
-Fevers: Burning, Intermittent, Pestilential, Putrid (Salmon)
-Leprosy (Ayurveda)
-proven antimicrobial effect
-enhances effectiveness of antibiotics and some chemotherapy drugs (eg. Taxol against Breast Cancer)

2. Opens Obstructions, Promotes Urine:
-Edema, obstructed or stopped Urine (Salmon)
-Kidney Stones
-Obesity
-Jaundice (Salmon)
-obstinate Abdominal diseases including Ascites, and also for Spleen disease. (Tibetan Medicine)
-distilled Cow Urine is also used for Obesity, Edema and Ascites.

3. Kills Worms:
-classically listed for Worms
-proven anthelmintic effect

4. Settles Wind, Stops Spasms:
-Paralysis, Apoplexy, Vertigo, Lethargy, Epilepsy

5. Rasayana (Tonic to the 7 Tissues):
-increases Blood in Anemia
-Diabetes (Ayurveda)
-aphrodisiac and enhances Fertility; Female Sterility

6. Yogavahi:
-enhances the effects of medicines it is combined with
-proven bio-enhancer effect (distillate is most effective)

7. Used in Pharmacy and Alchemy
-widely used in Ayurveda for preparation of medicines;
  -Aconite is steeped in Cow urine for 3 days to prepare it.
  –Guggulu (Bdellium) can be prepared by being boiled in Dola Yantra with Cow Urine
  -Datura seeds are purified after soaking in Cow Urine for 12 hours
  -Anacardium (Semecarpus) is also detoxified when treated with Cow Urine
-used in Rasasastra (Indian Alchemy) to prepare metals and minerals
-metals or minerals may be quenched in Cow Urine

8. Externally:
-Ulcers, Fistula
-dropped into the ears for Earache and Deafness (Salmon)
-Sores and Ulcers of the Mouth (Salmon)


Dose:


Note that distilled Cow Urine is more pleasant to take and just as effectual for most indications.
Cow Urine: 10–25 mls is a common dose, although some advocate a cupful.
Distilled Cow Urine: 100–250 mls per day.
Spirit of Cow Urine: 1 scruple–half dram
Salt of Cow Urine: 10 grains–1 scruple

Comment:


Distilled Cow Urine (Gomutra Ark) can be used similarly to Cow Urine, but is to be preferred. It is sterile, doesn’t have the taste of urine, and has a longer shelf life. It is principally used to reduce Phlegm humor (Kapha), for Edema and Obesity, but it has the same uses as Cow Urine.

2. Obesity, Chebula powder triturated with Cow Urine three times is used for Obesity in conjunction with diet and exercise.
3. Anemia, Cow Urine, Triphala, Milk
4. Leprosy:
i. Cow Urine, Barberry bark
ii. Cow Urine, Adhatoda, Neem
5. Diabetes, Shilajit triturated three times with Cow Urine is used for Diabetes.
6. Epilepsy, Cow Urine, Barberry bark

Major Formulas:



Panchagavya Ghirta
  Water extract of fresh Cow Dung
    Cow Milk
    Cow’s Milk Curd
    Cow Urine                       3 liters each
  Ghee                                  760 grams
Fresh Cow Dung is mixed with an equal amount of water and stirred well, then strained through muslin cloth to make the Water extract of Cow dung.
  Then heat the milk in a stainless steel vessel, gradually adding the other ingredients while stirring well. Heat for 3 hours stirring constantly and maintaining a temperature between  50–90 degrees C. Remove from the heat and allow to sit overnight. Heat the next day until the froth subsides and filter through muslin cloth while hot. Put into glass jars and protect from light and moisture.
  Used for Fever, Jaundice, Menopausal syndrome, Epilepsy and Insanity.
Dose: 12 grams daily in divided doses. (API)
