Colitis

Colitis is a chronic inflammation of the Bowel lining.

Symptoms
  • Abdominal pain or bloating
  • Diarrhea
  • Constant urge to defecate
  • Bloody stool
  • Fever

Causes
  • Infection (Viral, Bacterial, Parasitic)
  • Food Poisoning
  • Poor blood supply to the colon (Ischemic Colitis)
  • invasion of the colon wall with collagen or lymphocytes
  • Inflammatory Bowel Disease (Crohn’s or Ulcerative Colitis
Other causes include Food Allergy, Radiation treatment, reaction to medication etc.

Diagnosis in Western Medicine may involve Colonoscopy, Stool Culture, Barium Enema, CT or MRI scans. Treatment may include antibiotics, diet modification

INFUSION FOR COLITIS
    Comfrey leaf
    Agrimony
    Marshmallow leaf
    Cranesbill, of each        equal parts
Prepare a standard infusion.
    This is used for Mucous Colitis marked by Diarrhea with Mucus, and Bowel Pain.
Dose: take a wine-glassful three times daily. (Wonders in Weeds, W. Smith)

INFUSION FOR COLITIS AND DUODENAL ULCERS
    Dandelion
    St. John’s Wort
    Lemon Balm
    Calendula
    Fennel, of each            1 teaspoon
This is boiled for 5 minutes, covered and steeped for 40 minutes.
    Used for chronic Colitis and Duodenal Ulcers, marked by gnawing pain in the lower abdomen.
Take 3 times daily.
