B. Clear Heat and Toxin

Uses:


1. Clears Heat and Toxin:
-acute Wind-Heat Fever; Influenza; acute sore Throat
-acute upper respiratory tract infection; acute Cough
-hot, inflamed and suppurating skin conditions

2. Clears Liver Heat, Clears the Eyes:
-red, swollen, painful Eyes from Liver heat
-biliousness, hypochondriac pain from Liver heat
-headache, dizziness, hypertension from Liver heat


Dose:


Decoction: 3–9 grams (up to 15 grams)
Tincture (1:5 in 25% alcohol): 5–15mls.

Comment:


C. indicum (Ye Ju Hua) is more bitter and better to clear Heat and Toxin than C. morifolium (Ju Hua). The latter is sweeter and better to clear the Eyes.

Main Combinations:


1. Acute respiratory tract infections with Cough, Chrysanthemum indicum (Ye Ju Hua) with Lemongrass
2. Red, swollen, sore Eyes:
i. Chrysanthemum indicum (Ye Ju Hua) with Triphala for red, hot and swelling of the Eyes (Ayurveda)
ii. Chrysanthemum indicum (Ye Ju Hua) with Self Heal
4. To clear Liver heat and move Liver Qi, Chrysanthemum indicum (Ye Ju Hua) with Peppermint, Licorice, Costus (in women, Cyperus rotundus can be used in place of Costus)
5. Hypertension, Chrysanthemum indicum (Ye Ju Hua) with Self Heal and Peony root
6. To descend rising Qi and settle nervous irritation, Chrysanthemum indicum (Ye Ju Hua) is taken with Triphala (Ayurveda)
7. Nervous irritation, with Centella, Bacopa, Convolvulus Shanhapushpi
8. Furuncles, Boils and Abscesses:
i. Chrysanthemum indicum (Ye Ju Hua) with Dandelion and Violet
ii. Chrysanthemum indicum (Ye Ju Hua) with Figwort (Xuan Shen) and Coptis Huang Lian

Cautions:


1. Generally not used in Pregnancy (in Ayurveda)
