Herb Name Licorice juice extract White Sugar Gum Tragacanth Sweet Almonds blanched

Latin Succus Glycyrrhiza Saccharum Astragalus tragacanth Prunus amygdalus dulcis Amount 1 dram ea. 6 drams ea.

Preparation:

Troches are prepared by powdering, then with mucilage of Quince seed made in Rose water, form Troches.

Function:

Clear Phlegm and Heat, soothes Irritation, treats Sore Throat, stops Cough

Use:

1. Cough
2. Hoarseness
3. Sore Throat
4. Loss of Voice
5. adjunct in Asthma, Wheezing, Consumption, Hemoptysis and Catarrh.

Dose:

Sucked in the mouth until dissolved several times daily

Cautions:

None noted

Modifications:

1. White Troches for Cough added Orris and Musk to the above.

There were several versions of Troschici Bechici: White, Black, and Red. The black were most commonly used.
