2. Prepared Bdellium (Ayurveda)
In India, it is boiled in decoction of Triphala, Milk, Cow’s Urine, or else a decoction of Turmeric and Vitex nirgundi, removing the scum and filter the insoluble matter. Then it is usually (but not always) fried in Ghee, dried, and powdered. this is called Suddha Guggulu (purified Bdellium). If it is not fried in Ghee, it is spread out into little pieces and sun-dried.

Comment:

1. New (fresh) and Old (aged) Bdellium is differentiated in Ayurveda. The fresh (less than a year old) is regarded as more rejuvenating and nourishing, the old (over a year) is stronger to move Blood, resolve masses and clear toxins. It is regarded as useful in Cancer.
2. It is related to and similar to Myrrh. Some have called Bdellium an inferior variety of Myrrh, suggesting they can be used synonymously.
3. The difference between Bdellium and Myrrh: ‘Bdellium in sight is somewhat like to Myrrh, but may be distinguished thus; Myrrh is extreme bitter, so is not Bdellium; again Myrrh is easier to be broken, and of a more quick sharp scent’. (Pemell)
